Welcome to the website for Christian Ver Halen and The ROOFTOP.
JANUARY 2013: I am currently updating the entire website! For now you can check out my latest production on Maya Azucena's album "CRY LOVE". You can hear the songs in the music player or just click to listen in the "Music" section of the website.
Some recent news on CRY LOVE:
-It was awarded "The Best Rhythm & Blues Album of 2011" on PopMatters.com
-Amazon named it one of their "Outstanding Albums You May Have Missed" of 2011.
-It was one of the "Critics Pick Albums Of The Year" on SoulTracks.com.
PAST UPDATES: Just found out that we're going to Central America for a run of shows in late October. It's done in with the US State Department. We're "Cultural Ambassadors" for the United States. Lots of shows and clinics. We are REALLY looking forward to this.
I'm doing the off-broadway show "Culture Bandit Soul" with Maya Azucena and Vanessa Hidary again. October 15th at the new Galapagos in Brooklyn. Highly recommended. It combines Vanessa's play 'Culture Bandit' with Maya's music (most of which I co-wrote). We do this with the acoustic trio plus strings. Truly a rare show. More info on the calendar page.
We were at the South By Southwest Music Conference in Austin, TX again this year. I performed with both Kendra Ross and Maya Azucena at a few shows. Always a good time. I put a few shots up in the photos section.
I finally uploaded a bunch of photos from our tour in Myanmar/Burma. There are some absolutely amazing shots in there. Highly recommended. My song "Set You Free" (w/ Maya Azucena) was used in ad campaigns for Ford Motors and Diet Coke this summer. You can watch the video right here:
I was on tour in Asia with Maya Azucena for five weeks last spring. We were in Myanmar/Burma, China, Philippines and Sri Lanka. I will soon be posting some photos about this amazing experience.
My song "Down, Down" is featured on HBO's "The Wire". It's one of the coolest, most critically acclaimed shows on TV. It's good because there's no dialogue in the scene, just music. The song is from Maya Azucena's acoustic CD "Junkyard Jewel".
2007 was a restless year. Producing and performing with Maya Azucena and Kendra Ross (with more to come). 2008 sees us touring Asia for the first time. More details on that in the next couple of weeks. -The debut CD by Kendra Ross is titled 'New Voice'. Co-produced by CVH and Kendra. It also features guest spots by Talib Kweli, Eric Roberson and others. You can hear samples in the 'Music' section.
The new acoustic CD by Maya Azucena is out now. It's titled "Junkyard Jewel". It features Maya, myself on acoustic guitar, and Ive09 on percussion. Plus strings on four tunes and upright bass on a couple tracks. You can hear samples in the 'Music' section. Get it here: http://cdbaby.com/cd/mayaazucena -
